I think that a home is not a home unless it is in harmony with nature around it. I grew up on almost 10 acres of land and much of the land was left wooded. We used to see deer in the morning crossing the property, as well as your almost weekly mish mash of Racoons, Possums, Rabbits, Snakes, Turtles, and Birds.
I used to build live animal traps with my Grandfather too, catching many a bird.

I have to add WWLTV for news on New Orleans. They have a specific section WWLTV Northshore for news and information in St Tammany.

Here are two links that I want to share with everyone that I think could be passed on as people move in their lives.
First is a great link I found that lists the Extension Services for each State. State by State Listing of Extension Services

If there is anyone that does not know what an extension service is I will give a brief answer. It is years of university research and resources made available to the public. My family and friends got trees through them each year. I always thought they were great.

Your extension service is an excellent resource for anyone raising animals or crops on a farm. If you are growing a garden, check with the local extension service and they can tell you common plants as well as yearly planting times. They also sell trees for lanscaping and reforesting.
