The Great Southern Louisiana Ant Pile!

    I do not know how many of you have had a fascination with ants like myself, since I was a kid. Ants and bees to an extent. I guess it is their organizational skills. I should have put something in the picture to show the scale of the size of this pile. 12 – 14 inches across, 8 – 10 high. Our recent warm weather in the middle of January has got them scurring. Is there something wrong with the human psyche that makes you want to go poke an ant pile? I mean if you grew up around here, we've all done it many a time, and in most cases suffered the consequences. It is amazing how an ant will climb the tall grasses to land on your socks and shoes, and suddenly 5 minutes later… Yow!

Well, in my age I have become more peaceful with nature; the Good Lord made ants for a purpose and sometimes it takes time for that purpose to shine through… Though I have never burned them one at a time with a magnifying glass; you have to have a little cruel in you to take the time to do that… I have eradicated many an ant pile in what in 99% of the cases turned out to be a futile effort. Red ants and Southern Louisiana are like red beans and rice; inseperable in most cases. I am of a mind now of live and let live, so as far as I am concerned, at least they aren't army ants from the Amazon. We got that going for us. Right…? :)

St Tammany Courthouse and Commercial Real Estate

Investing in real estate located near a Parish Seat, or in the rest of the 49 States what are called Counties,  LOL. 🙂 Is, and and probably always be, a good long term investment. Proximity to the Parish Justice Center, in say; one of the fastest growing Parishes in Louisiana. Hmmm… Sounds like an idea with potential. Attached below is a list of commerial properties for sale within one half mile of the St Tammany Parish Justice Center located at 701 N Columbia St, Covington, LA 70433. 1/2 mile is not a bad walking distance, though I would question the sanity of anyone who attempts it in June July or August, and September, and part of October sometimes too… 🙂 I love humidity!

Seriously; County Seats or town centers of growing communities are good long term investments; real estate in these and like locations have the ability to yield high quality returns.

79 homes sold in Mandeville and Madisonville for the month of December 2011. These numbers are a significant increase, over 25%, from the 56 homes sold the previous month of November, and are much closer to the 78 homes sold in October. Not sure why the big dip in November. I definitely feel better times are ahead with the fresh start of a new year. More consistent times hopefully.

According to data pulled from the GSREIN MLS; during the year 2011, there were 2599 residential homes sold in St Tammany Parish Louisiana, of this number, 545 of them were listed as Real Estate Owned / Bank owned properties, which equates to 21%.

Over 1 in 5 homes sold in St Tammany during 2011 was listed as an REO… Hmmm…
