New High School in Mandeville, LA almost ready to go.

January 28, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

The new high school built off of Hwy 1088, in between the interstate and Hwy 36, is just about ready for students. The Times Picayune and NOLA.com has a good article on it. I hope it excels and becomes an award winning educational institution, adding to the highly regarded Mandeville School District, as well as St Tammany overall.

Extension.org

January 28, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

http://www.extension.org/

Looks to be a good website.

"Resources brought to you by the Cooperative Extension System and your Local Institution."

I have not dug into it, but from the outside it looks like a user friendly portal into the resources available from the LSU Ag Center, as well as it's CoOps. Any college with an A&M (Agricultural and Mechanical) behind it. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. If this is the case, there is going to be vast resources through this website for anyone farming or ranching at any level. From backyard to commercial.

Growing Blackberries in Louisiana

January 28, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

The LSU Ag Center has another good article on growing blackberries in Louisiana. I know we have several "pick your own" blueberry farms locally, but no blackberry. Now I have to reckon the reason is we have so many WILD thorny ones growing in our own backyards. My legs have been chewed up many times by them. However, they do make some darn good berries. Lol. I found the article interesting.

St Tammany Parish Hospital Expansion

January 25, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

I knew this was coming, but I did not know the details. 10 year, $200,000,000.00 (Yes $200 Million) expansion. NOLA.com and The Times Picayune Well, good Lord willing I will not need its services, but I am glad it is happening. I think it is gonna be sweet when it is completed. I know I will be glad when Hwy 21 is done.

St Tammany Property Tax bills to be delayed a short time more.

January 15, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

They are coming soon to a mailbox near you, St Tammany Parish property tax bills. WDSU 6 News. Take cover, watchout, beware. Muuuaaaaahhhhhhhahahahahahaha!!!!! (insert evil laugh). These bills are late bloomers, but pack a punch, I have no doubt.

Any problems with the assessment of your property tax bills in St Tammany you can go to the St Tammany Parish Assessor's Official Website as a starting point.

If you have any trouble with your property tax bill you need to contact the St Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office – Tax Division or email questions to PropertyTax@stpso.com. This includes trouble paying the bill or the question, What happens if I do not pay my bill? The Sheriff's Office will sell your property at the annual tax sale and you will then have three years to redeem the property. After that you can pretty much waive goodbye to it. It could cost you a good bit of money to get it back at that point, because someone else is now on title and you would then have to buy them out to get the property back.

I don't want to go into too much detail about the property tax sales because I already have a post with some information at St Tammany Talks Property Tax. As well I can email a list of some of the LA State Laws concerning Property Tax Sales and notify you of the next upcoming sale if you visit www.StTammanyTaxSale.com.

Thank You

Casino in St Tammany? Huh? What?

December 22, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Check this out. A casino in St Tammany Parish. WDSU.com Channel 6 News. In Slidell. I think it would have to be. It would never fly in Mandeville.

I do not like casinos. I moved to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi in 1991 about 3 months before the big vote to allow casinos. I was there when the first casinos moved into Gulfport and Biloxi. I was also there for alot of the construction as the larger casinos moved in and real estate was renovated. Hotels, condominiums, etc. All of this is good, what I abhor about casinos is the wanton waste of money. Casinos are there for people to throw away money, plain and simple.

If it were just the entertainment side of gambling I would not see it so bad, a group of guys getting around and playing poker or bourre'. Hell I might bring the kids. But gambling can take hold of people and get their blood up making them do things they would not normally do. There is a story we tell about foreclosure sales, though not exactly like gambling the desire to win is the same. A man pulls a dollar out of his pocket and auctions it off. The bidding gets to over $20.00 before people come to their senses. Do not let the excitement get the better of you. It will only cost you money.

Take that excitement and add in all the free alcohol you can consume. Please. This is legal? You have got to be kidding. I want to own one. Candy from a baby is what I call it. Fleecing. You are not even making it a level playing field. The house always wins. Sometimes I have dreams I am an American Indian. Blackfoot I think…

Why not a new Pontchartrain Beach? A couple of safe rides for the kids, a boardwalk with shops and restaurants along the shore over looking the water. I would rather see something like that than a casino. Just my opinion, and you know how opinions are like ughrum! (clearing of throat) everybody's got one and most of them stink. My $.02.

Thank You

Marc
