January 25, 2009 by admin Leave a Comment

Now this is the kinda news I like to see. NOLA.com and The Times Picayune Bald Eagles nesting in Mandeville. I have seen one before, flying, in North Covington, over Lake Ramsey way. A beautiful sight. We should have more.

Our Night Sky Above

December 4, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

"When you see what real dark skies are like without light pollution it triggers something."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/3526362/Amateur-astronomer-captures-dawn-of-the-universe-from-back-garden-observatory.html

I grew up on 10 acres in the woods. On a dead end gravel road. No street lights, nothing but the stars above. There is so much beauty in the night sky it is humbling. I have seen over a hundred shooting stars, as well, on the cold nights, when the air is clear, the stars damn near speak to you. You can almost touch them. The Milky Way stretches across the sky. There is alot of beauty out there we are missing, just by not looking at our night sky once a day/evening. <—- lol

Genius Scientist in Japan

November 27, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

http://www.brainsturbator.com/articles/yoshiro_nakamatsu_we_salute_you

I have never heard of this guy, but he actually invented the floppy disk, as well the basics of the CD and DVD according to Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoshiro_Nakamatsu

He states he licensed the floppy disk to IBM in the late 70s, and IBM says they have an ongoing relationship with him. He seems eccentric though. Over 3000 inventions. Only big in Japan though? I wonder why?

Trees for Louisiana Landscapes – LSU AgCenter

Download Pub1622trees

A good informational pamphlet. If you have any interest as an arborist in Louisiana, check this out. I originally downloaded this file several years ago. I also think I have it posted already.

Hope to see you there. This sounds like a great event for an even better cause. I have dear friends of mine who have had to go to Children's Hospital. All you can do is pray for ten fingers, ten toes, and everything in between.

WST Electric BBQ Mania I “Barnyard Smackdown”, A KCBS Sanctioned Event

September 28, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

October 3rd and 4th, 2008 at Fontainebleau State Park, Mandeville, LA

Western St Tammany Electric presents BBQ Mania I "Barnyard Smackdown".

A Kansas City Barbeque Society Sanctioned Event.

Proceeds go to Children's Hospital in New Orleans.

Both Professional and Patio Circuit Cookoffs, with Prizes and Awards.

This sounds like a really good time. I love BBQ, and have tried my hand a few times at slow cooking / smoking different meats. (Mostly chicken and pork), however I am no where near good enough to enter a competitive event like this. Maybe next year. Though I will be there to enjoy some fine BBQ I expect.

I have also gotten some good information from these websites and there is a free newsletter you can sign up for as well.

Hope to see you there, with BBQ sauce dripping off your elbow. 🙂
