As you may or may not have heard, Lt. Wade Sharp with the Covington, LA Police Department brought his 8 year old daughter camping in a tent in Jackson, MS last week. She had been asking him to take her. This was, unfortunately, the night the bad weather came through. When he heard the loud cracking of a large tree breaking and falling toward them, he covered his daughter with his body to protect her as a 125-foot tree crashed down onto the tent causing a limb to strike him in the head, killing him. His daughter was unharmed because of her Dad's heroic efforts. He left behind 2 children.
  Chili's Restaurant is sponsoring the family on Tuesday, May 17th from 11am to 11pm. You can eat at any Chili's in the state of (LA) Louisiana and provide thim with the attached flyer and they will donate 10% of the sales back to the family. To Go orders are also welcome.

To me it is very simple. Now is an excellent time to buy a home! Interest rates are unbelievably low and home prices are extremely low. There is a tremendous inventory of distressed homes (short sales and pre-foreclosures) as well bank owned REO homes weighing the market down and therefore forcing lower home values. As the economy improves, (which I absolutely believe it will soon) theis abnormally high number of foreclosures and REOs we are experencing, will dwindle, and the current inventory of homes will, slowly at first, get scooped up by investors or purchased by first time home buyers. Hence… As these empty REO homes are filled, home values will begin to rise for the rest of the market. However, once home values rise, interest rates will rise right along side, almost like a 2 person side car on a motorcycle. Where one goes the other will follow…

Needless to say there is alot more to our current real estate market than my brief synapsis here, however, currently we are in a Buyer's Market and have been for several years… I believe the worm is beginning to turn though. Hope you enjoy.

The SLU Economic Reporter is an excellent document which provides insight into the local economies for St Tammany, Tangipahoa, Washington, Livingston, and St Helena Parishes. Anyone who wants a clear window into our local Northshore market should look closely at this paper. Just so you know… I find it very easy to go into a deep tirade of adjectives about the SLU Economic Reporter, something that sounds like; professional, informative, outstanding, competent, knowledgeable and invaluable resource. (Ummm… Just exactly how many constitutes a tirade? Did I meet the requirement?)  :)

This Quarter; Q1 2011, the SLU Economic Reporter details the current (or most recent data available) status of the Northshore Housing Market. Check it out. This is good information.

Tammany Together Hosting Panel Discussion with 5 St Tammany Mayors, 4/18/11

At the Annual http://www.tammanytogether.org/ Meeting, Open to the Public, held on Monday, April 18, 2011, Tammany Together will host five sitting St Tammany Parish Mayors: Freddy Drennan, Louis Fitzmorris, Peter Gitz, Donald Villere and Candace Watkins, Mayors of Slidell, Abita Springs, Madisonville, Mandeville, and Covington, Louisiana respectively. Whom will engage themselves in a group panel discussion on the challenges, opportunities, and committments of the Mayoral office. There will also be a more informal Q and A after the panel discussion has completed.

I believe this will be a very informative program hosted by Tammany Together, which will be held Monday April 18th, 2011 at The Christwood Retirement Community at 100 Christwood Boulevard, Covington, LA 70433, starting at 6:30pm.

I hope to see you there. It is open to the public…

Hackers and Cell Phone Pictures! GPS Embedded In Your Pics! Bloggers Beware!

I originally saw a television news article about the GPS embedded in your pictures, and after doing a little research I came across an article from Yahoo, titled: Check Your Settings; Phone Pictures are Risky. This article from Yahoo explains it well, so please make sure if you are on the front lines of the digital age, posting pics to any of the multitude of websites available; Facebook, You Tube, Flickr… Beware! If anyone wanted more information it would be easy to find. Change the settings on your camera or video cam now! Or Freddy Kruger will find you…! (Ooops, did I just show my age!) 🙂 No seriously, make it happen for your protection.

2011 St Tammany Children’s Museum, Celebration of Discovery, Video

In 2004, the Junior League of Greater Covington initiated talks with Parish President Kevin Davis to build a children’s museum in St. Tammany. In 2009, the museum groundbreaking was held at its future home on Koop Drive adjacent to the Kids Konnection playground.

What a really great fun and exciting place for children in St Tammany. Attached is a short video of the Celebration of Discovery.
