Meat Rita at the Fishing Pier. Participants will be guided on a walk along the shoreline of Lake Pontchartrain to discover the bio-diversity of plants and animals in the area.
Friday – 7:00 P.M. – Threatened & Endangered Animals: Brown Pelicans
Visitors will learn about animals that are threatened or endangered and about how scientists work to improve their numbers. This program’s emphasis will be on the Brown Pelican
Saturday – 10 a.m. – Explore the Shore,
Participants will check in at the Lake front and meet the site ranger at the west end of the beach in the day-use area, where the marsh and the wooded area will be explored to discover the bio-diversity of plant and animal life found there. Saturday – 10:00 -Wild Iris Tour
The site ranger will lead participants on Fontainebleau State Park’s nature trail, to view the annual blooming of the Louisiana Wild Irises.

Saturday – 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. – Primitive Woodworking
Join Richard at the ‘Interpretive Program Area’ for a demonstration in the use of a froe for splitting wood, and the use of a shaving horse and ‘draw’ knives for shaping wooden objects and whittling.
Sunday – 10:00 A.M. – Pond Life
Meet The Interpretive Ranger at the Fishing Pond to use scoop nets to collect as many different kinds of aquatic wildlife from the fishing pond, to learn about the bio-diversity there. The park naturalist will then help in the identification of specimens caught.
Sunday – 1:00 P.M. – History Tour
Meet at the sugar mill ruins to learn about the history of Marigny’s Fontainebleau Plantation, walk along the main road to discuss the brick kiln and purgery ruins and walk to the lakefront for information on the slave bell.
Sunday – 2:30 P.M. – Wild Iris Tour
The site ranger will lead participants on Fontainebleau State Park’s nature trail, to view the annual blooming of the Louisiana Wild Irises.
