Woofstock 2015! Sunday March 1st! St Tammany Humane Society.
Mandeville, LA – The St. Tammany Humane Society is hosting the area’s first ever Mega-Adoption Event in conjunction with its largest annual low cost clinic and fundraising event, Woofstock 2015, on Sunday, March 1st from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Castine Center in Pelican Park, Mandeville, LA.
“For the past 26 years, we have held a spring, low-cost vaccine clinic, allowing dogs to receive vaccinations, heartworm tests and microchips, while their owners purchase preventatives and take advantage of other services at deeply discounted rates,” explains Dr. Michelle Newfield, STHS Interim Director.
The hours for this year’s vet clinic are 10 AM to 2 PM. Canine annual packages which include Rabies, Distemper-Hepatitis-Parvo-Parainfluenza combination, and Bordetella vaccines along with a heartworm test are just $65.00. In addition, microchips will be offered for $12 each. Heartworm and flea prevention that have been donated by the manufacturers will be available for purchase for animals that are participate in the Woofstock Vaccine Clinic. Supplies are limited.
Part fundraiser, part festival, Woofstock 2015 will be breaking new ground by becoming the Northshore’s first Mega Pet Adoption Event, featuring over 200 adoptable dogs and cats from STHS and other area rescue groups and shelters including St. Tammany Department of Animal Services, St. Francis Animal Sanctuary, Big Sky Ranch/CATNIP, Animal Assistance League with Slidell Animal Control, Hokie’s Hounds, Humane Society of Louisiana-Magnolia Chapter, Jefferson SPCA, and St. Bernard Animal Services.
“This is the first time ever that these organizations have come together for an event of this scale. We have set a combined goal to find permanent homes for at least one hundred animals during the event,” says Newfield. “We will all be charging the same low adoption fee of $40, and there will be a streamlined adoption process during the event.”
Admission to the festival is free, and families along with their canine companions are invited to enjoy the many activities for which Woofstock is famous, including canine contests, humane education, children’s entertainment, basket raffles, a Woofstock vendor marketplace, food, drinks and music. This year’s canine contests include: Best Hippie Costume, Best Celebrity Look-a-like, Fastest Tail Wag, Cutest Dog, and Best Canine Trick. The winners of each individual contest will then compete for the coveted title of “Best in Show.”
Sponsors of this year’s event include:
Elanco Animal Health, First Bank and Trust Hood Northlake Chevrolet, Idexx Laboratories, Lake 94.7, Liberty Self Storage, Merck Animal Health, Nash 92.3 FM, Nestle Purina, NexGard, Postelthwaite & Netterville, Triple U 98.9 FM, and 2 Million Dogs.
“The funds we raise will help to change the lives of hundreds of animals in our parish,” Newfield concludes, “providing them with shelter, food, veterinary services, and the enhanced opportunity to be adopted into wonderful, loving homes.”
The St. Tammany Humane Society is Louisiana’s largest non-profit, no-kill animal welfare organization and shelter. Since 1953, STHS has been assisting the ailing, abused and abandoned animals of the gulf coast region, and relies solely on the financial support of the community.
