St Tammany Parish Land Use Assessment / Agreement. I.E. Farm Status and Lower Property Taxes
This is a good program offered to property owners of 3+ acres, and may lower your property tax bill each year. The requirement for the tax cut is the land must commercially produce an average annual gross income of at least $2000.00 in one of the following specifications. To rephrase, you must have "Bona fide"
- Agricultural Land
- Horticultural Land
- Timberland
- Marshland
and make at least 2K each year off the land, i.e. selling 2K+ a year in yard eggs, or 2K+ a year in live oaks or geraniums, or 2K+ a year in saw logs or firewood.
The penalty is harsh for committing fraud on this form. This is why the Land Use Assessment is also called an Agreement. The penaly is 5 times the amount of the difference saved. I am attaching a scanned copy of the form obtained from the St Tammany Parish Assessor's Office. This copy is NOT FOR USE. You must go down to the Assessor's Office located at 701 N Columbia St, Covington, LA 70433. Here is a Google Map showing the exact location.

Louisiana Residential Property, Hurricane, Loss Mitigation, Insurance Incentives
Receive Insurance Premium Discounts when you build or retrofit a residential home to meet the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code requirements. Or… you install "damage mitigation improvements" which reduce the amount of loss in a hurricane.
What they are talking about are; storm windows, hurricane clips, ties and braces and assorted other nifty construction techniques which make your home more of a solid structure when the winds begin to pick up each year down here in Southern Louisiana.

Take a look at the form which is linked above. It is a small 2 page informational pamphlet provided by the Louisiana Department of Insurance. It includes beau coup information about the incentives, and links to more information, including the LSU Ag Center's LaHouse, which, by itself, is a massive collection of free resources for Louisiana Home Owners.
You must use a building code enforcement officer, a licensed architect, engineer or third party provider to inspect the property to make sure you receive the insurance benefits. A list of approved persons may be found at the LSUCCC.
I hope this gets some good exposure, and people can save a few dollars off their insurance.

** The unemployment rate is up, but still lower than the average, and building permits are up for this quarter, but still down over Q4 2008. The good news is there are projected growths for 2010 and 2011 from reputable resources, so keep your head up. **
