Humane Society’s Mega-Adoption Event Sets New Record at Woofstock 2015

Mandeville, LA – Deemed a “howling success” by Dr. Michelle Newfield, interim director of St. Tammany Humane Society, a record 31 dogs and cats were adopted from the rescue at Woofstock 2015, held Sunday, March 1^st at the Castine Center in Pelican Park.

Part fundraiser, part festival, the annual event broke new ground this year by becoming the Northshore’s first Mega Pet Adoption Event. Participating alongside the St. Tammany Humane Society were Hokie’s Hounds, Jefferson SPCA, Slidell Animal Control, St. Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services, Humane Society of Louisiana-Magnolia Chapter, and St. Francis Animal Sanctuary.

“We were thrilled that between us, 99 dogs and cats found their forever homes,” Newfield said, “and that approximately 600 dogs participated in our low cost Vaccine Clinic.”

“For the past 26 years, our spring clinic has allowed dogs to receive vaccinations, heartworm tests and microchips at reduced prices, while their owners have purchased preventatives and taken advantage of other services at deeply discounted rates,”

With over 2,600 in attendance, local celebrities, Curt Sprang and Christian Serpas acted as masters of ceremonies. STHS event coordinator, Michele Nazar officially opened the event, while Bonnie Porrier offered a pet blessing.

Mandeville Mayor Donald Villere, news reporter Ashley Rodrigue, and radio personality TC Elliot served as celebrity judges for the canine contests, and the winners of each contest competed for Best In Show.

Raising Cane’s, Triple U 98.9 FM, NASH 92.3 FM and Elanco were among the event’s top sponsors.

“The funds we raised will help change the quality of life for hundreds of animals in our parish by providing them with shelter, food and veterinary services,” Newfield concluded. “But most importantly, they will have a much better chance of being adopted into warm and loving homes.”

The St. Tammany Humane Society is Louisiana’s largest non-profit, no-kill animal welfare organization and shelter. Since 1953, STHS has been assisting the ailing, abused and abandoned animals of the gulf coast region, and relies solely on the financial support of the community.
