St. Tammany Humane Society seeking Partners & Sponsors for “WOOFSTOCK 2016”

Mandeville, LA – Planning has begun for Woofstock 2016, St. Tammany Humane Society 27^th Annual Festival & Low Cost Vaccine Clinic which is the Northshore’s only Mega-Adoption Event.  The 2016 event is to be held at the Castine Center in Mandeville on Sunday, February 28^th, 2016, from 10am – 4pm.

Last year, over 2,600 folks attended Woofstock and made it a “howling” success.   This success enabled the placement in homes for 99 animals in one day.   Over 200 adoptable dogs and cats from St. Tammany Humane Society, area rescue groups and shelters will be on hand with the goal of finding homes for a hundred or more of the animals present.  All participating rescue groups agree on one low cost adoption fee and there is a streamlined adoption process during the event.

In order for this to happen, the St. Tammany Humane Society is currently seeking sponsors, food vendors, and rescue groups to make this adoption event a success.  If you’d like more information on partnering with the Humane Society for this event, please contact event coordinator, Michele Nazar at 985-892-7387 or volunteers@sthumane.org.

This is the St. Tammany Humane Society’s 63^rd year in operation and our 27^th annual spring low cost clinic and fundraising event.  Woofstock is our largest fundraiser of the year, with over 450 dogs expected to go through the low cost vaccine clinic, and as many homeless pets as possible adopted into their new homes, and everyone enjoying the festival-like atmosphere. There will be dog and costume contests, a Woofstock marketplace featuring local vendors, kiddie-entertainment, music, and fun festival food and drink.  It is truly a fun and exciting day to spend with your family and the family dog.

Funds raised by this event will help to change the lives of hundreds of animals in our region providing them food, shelter, veterinary services, and the opportunity to be adopted into a great home.

HUMANE SOCIETY RELAUNCHES “FIXDAT! PIT” PROGRAM

(Covington, LA) – Following the success for the first launch of the “FixDat! Pit” in January 2014, St. Tammany Humane Society is excited to announce that they have opened an additional 100 spaces for low cost spays and neuters for Pit Bull Terriers and Pitt Bull mixes.

For a mere $15 per dog, the owners of 100 Pit Bulls and mixes who would not otherwise may not be able to afford the regular cost of the procedure can take advantage of this opportunity to have their pet spayed or neutered.

“Thanks to grant funding, an increasing number of Pit Bull owners can both take responsibility and act responsibly by spaying and neutering their pets,” explains Medical Director, Dr. Michelle Newfield. “Because Pit Bulls are one of the most euthanized dog breeds in America, by reducing the number of unwanted births in our community, we hope to reduce the number of unwanted Pit Bulls entering pounds and high-kill shelters.”

This opportunity it opened to owners living in St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, St. Helena and Washington parishes.

Reservations must be made in person, and the $15 fee paid at the time of booking to hold that spot. Every Pit Bull owner must present proof of residency and proof of their dog’s current Rabies and Distemper-Parvo (DHPP) vaccines in order to participate in the program.

St Tammany Humane Society Names New CEO

St. Tammany Humane Society Names New Chief Executive Officer

Scott W. Bernier has been named Chief Executive Officer of St. Tammany Humane Society.

The 51-year-old Bernier most recently served as Chief Operating Officer for the Second Harvest Food Bank in the Greater New Orleans area, where he was responsible for the non-profit’s Operations, Programs, Community Kitchen, Transportation and Facilities functions.

Previously Bernier served on the Board of Animal Assisted Therapy Services in Connecticut, a group that provides canine and equine therapy to people with physical, cognitive, psychosocial, and emotional disabilities as part of their other, ongoing treatment.

In 2010, Bernier was Chief Operating Officer for the Connecticut Food Bank, and in 2008, after 20 years in the field of corporate transportation and logistics, he was named Director of Operations for Easter Seals Goodwill in New Haven, CT.

A native of Connecticut, Bernier received his BA in Business Administration from Central Connecticut State University in 1986.

He currently resides in Covington, LA with his wife Lori, four children, and the family dog.
